On March the 19th 2021, we were deeply honored to host Her Excellency Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard ,
the Ambassador of the United States of America to Nigeria. She was accompanied by a high powered delegation from USAID and a Political Officer from the US Embassy in Abuja.
The ambassador is an expert in African issues having served a significant portion of her public service career in Africa. Before her appointment as ambassador, she was appointed by President Obama as the Representative of the United States of America to the African Union, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, on July 5, 2016. She also served as U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
Since her appointment in 2019, this is the ambassador’s first visit to the Agency. It was an honour to engage her on a variety of subjects. Among other things, we discussed establishing and/or strengthening localised peace structures in some of the most conflict-prone communities across our state.
The Ambassador commended the Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong for his unwavering commitment to entrenching the ideals of sustainable Peace in Plateau State. She expressed her continued support to the Plateau Peace Building Agency in its effort to help communities build peace, enhance resilience and ensure the harmonious co-existence of all ethno-religious groups in Plateau State.
The Agency appreciates the continued cooperation and support received from the US Embassy and institutions.
